Objectives:
Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
1. Define the different types of pelvic floor dysfunction.
2. Describe the risk factors for several common types of pelvic floor dysfunction, including urinary incontinence, and constipation.
3. Discuss the process and procedure for the physical therapy examination and evaluation of a patient with pelvic floor dysfunction.
4. Develop physical therapy interventions for pelvic floor dysfunction, including behavioral and exercise strategies.
5. Apply strategies to promote healthy bladder habits and to decrease symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction in the elderly population.
About The Speaker(s)
Dr. Carol Figuers Carol Figuers received her BA in Biology from Wake Forest
University, her MS in Physical Therapy from Duke University, and her EdD in
Education from NC State University. She
is currently Professor Emeritus in the Duke University Doctor of Physical
Therapy Program. Her area of clinical
practice, teaching and research is in perinatal care and pelvic floor
dysfunction. In particular, Dr. Figuers has
focused on pelvic floor dysfunction in female athletes as well as physical
activity in postpartum women. She has
authored numerous articles and textbook chapters on women’s health physical
therapy. Dr. Lorna Troost Lorna Troost, PT, DPT, WCS, CLT graduated from Smith College with a BA in Japanese literature and modern dance in 2008 and received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2015. She had worked in multiple setting including private practice ,skilled nursing/retirement communities, and hospital based outpatient clinics. She currently works at Duke's Lenox Baker and Duke Regional Hospital's Cancer Center with concerns related to pelvic health, lymphedema, oncology, and osteoporosis, and is a mentor in the Women's Health and Oncology residency programs.
