BHSIG Welcome Letter – March 2022

BH SIG    February 20, 2022

Welcome back to the BHSIG site! Here’s some news you need to know.

A great deal of scholarly work has been accomplished in the last few years to inform and support evidence based practice for bone health. THANK YOU to these colleagues for amazing contributions.

  • Hartley GW, Roach KE, Nithman RW, Betz SR, Lindsey C, Fuchs RK, Avin KG, (2022). “Physical therapist management of patients with suspected or confirmed osteoporosis: a clinical practice guideline from the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy “
  • Avin KG, Nithman RW, Osborne R, Betz SR, Lindsey C (2022). “Essential components of physical therapist management of patients with osteoporosis: a Delphi study.”

Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF, formerly NOF)—launching BoneFit USA initiative – they offered their first virtual classes in October 2021 and Feb 2022. Next option will be in May 2022.  Contact  for training information.

Please review the minutes from our member meeting 2/15/22. There is a lot of energy brewing toward some action items for CSM 2023 and resources (toolbox?) to make the CPG and Delphi work real in day to day practice. Got ideas??? Let us know!

Volunteers needed:

  • BONE HEALTH REFERENCES. We are in need of 2-3 volunteers to work on this moving forward to keep it current. If you are in the literature on a regular basis in academia, research or program development, this is the perfect spot for you. Kathy Shipp will provide guidance on this process.

Please visit the website often. This is a member resource!

If you have questions, ideas or other contributions – please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for all you do for your patients, your students and our profession!
